Iran, Armenia ink MoU for educational cooperation

In order to expand scientific and cultural ties, a memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed between the Iranian University of Religions and Denominations and the National University of Yerevan in Qom.

Hawzah News Agency- the Chancellor of Yerevan State University and the Armenian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran paid a visit to the University of Religions and Denominations in Qom on Thursday, June 23.

During the visit, The Armenian academic delegation become familiar with different sections of the university and met with Hujjat al-Islam Sayyed Abolhassan Nawab, chancellor of the University of Religions and Denominations in Qom.

The chancellor of the University of Religions and Denominations warmly welcomed the Armenian professors and stated, "There is no separation or huge difference between Armenians and Iranians, and it can be said with certainty that the Iranian-Armenian community's attachment to Iran and their commitment is nothing less than the Iranians themselves."

During the meeting, Prof. Hovhannes V. Hovhannisyan, chancellor of Yerevan State University said, "Since the first minutes we arrived in Iran, we were warmly welcomed by you and other Iranians, and such attitude shows very good signs of Iranian hospitality and rich culture."

Prof. Hovhannes V. Hovhannisyan further added, "There are several courses with a focus on Iranian Studies in the Oriental Studies sub-group, which are proudly taught at the National University of Yerevan and so many students are interested in such courses; As the field of Oriental Studies and Iranian Studies are among the most popular fields at our university.”

The Armenian Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran was also present at the meeting and he elaborated on the need to sign joint memorandums of understanding between the two sides in order to expand scientific and cultural activities; he further said,” Today, the fruits of previous meetings and contacts between Iran and Armenia can certainly be seen, of which the chair of Iranian Studies offered at the Yerevan State University is one of the most prominent examples of such mutual cooperation.”

It is worth mentioning that at the end of the meeting, a memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed between the Iranian University of Religions and Denominations and the National University of Yerevan by the presidents of two universities.
